John Carlo, Inc. Safety Mission

It is John Carlo, Inc's. mission to continually provide a healthy and safe environment for all employees.  JCI has developed and continually modifies our safety program to comply with and exceed all current local, state, and federal standards that apply to the construction activities.  Application of good construction practices and continued research to perform all actions in a safe and efficient manner are integral parts of the safety program.  JCI has some of the most stringent safety policies and procedures of any contracting company in the united states.

Management Commitment

Executive level management continually monitors our safety program with input from operational personnel, safety staff, and industry experts.  JCI has a strong safety incentive and award program and conducts bilingual safety-training sessions for supervisory personnel over six times a year including an intensive week long safety certification course.  All projects are assessed for safety concerns, and where applicable, pre task analysis evaluations are performed and reviewed prior to construction start. JCI management has implemented and enforced a policy stipulating that any project appearing to be unsafe will be shut down immediately.

Safety Staffing

Our Corporate Safety Manager has the responsibility for implementing the JCI safety program throughout the company’s operations and reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.  The Corporate Safety Manager has Safety Specialists in each regional office that have been given the authority to enforce the corporate safety policy and discipline any employee in disregard of it.  In addition, it is also their responsibility to require all subcontractors to adhere to JCI's or similar safety standards, conduct periodic safety inspections, investigate and fully document any and all accidents, and develop the safety training for all operational employees. JCI has dedicated a Safety Site Inspector to projects, where applicable, to provide oversight to crews and subcontractors.

Roles and Responsibilities of Project Personnel

JCI Project Superintendents are responsible for project safety, distribution of all required safety equipment, and the instruction of employees in its proper use.  Superintendents instruct project Foremen, as well as all new field employees, in proper safety practice and insist on its total implementation during daily activities.
JCI Foremen work directly with the Superintendents to ensure safety, make certain employees utilize the safety equipment provided, report all accidents, injuries, unsafe work conditions or practices to the Superintendent, and follow-up with corrective measures.  In addition, the Foremen conduct weekly on site "Tool Box Meetings" with field employees and file meeting reports to the Corporate Safety Manager.  It is the Foreman's responsibility to make sure all field employees have been instructed on JCI's safety policies and practices.

All JCI field employees are responsible, under penalty of discipline and/or discharge, for utilizing all safety equipment provided and for conducting activities in a manner that does not jeopardize the safety of anyone on a job site.  JCI encourages employees to report any unsafe condition or practice to their Supervisor, and to take an active part in the continuing development of JCI's safety policies.
